I see art, especially painting, as an opening to discussion, a window into new perceptions. Art is a means of discovering not only others’ views of the world, but perhaps more importantly, a way to greater self-discovery. Sometimes words are not enough to express the emotion or beauty in a scene. How can language capture the dynamics of a place or the subtlety of interactions between people? Painting helps me to convey my feelings about a situation that moves me, sometimes without even my knowing why.

I remain faithful to realism in my paintings to establish a connection with people and to relate my viewpoint to others. I believe a visual experience can be a powerful communication, one with lasting impact. Should my paintings evoke questions, cause pause for thought or further examination into the viewer’s world – or merely a greater appreciation of the beauty around them – to that extent they succeed.

Painting and art are a challenging undertaking that require technical skills but also patience and openness to self-discovery. Each new painting I start presents its own problems and opportunities for learning, and is a new discovery. It is this creative process, as much as the subject matter, that captures my imagination and gives meaning to my work.
